Caulking “The Finishing Touch”

Water erosion is the most common cause of sinking concrete. Caulking is the final and most important step in keeping your concrete even. Caulking also prevents tripping hazards due to large gaps.

Polyurethane caulking is the only sealant recommended for residential and commercial outdoor cement applications.

Note: Caulking should only be applied in optimal weather conditions.

First, the deteriorated expansion joints and all debris are removed and the joint is cleaned.
Play sand is used to fill the joint and a “foam-like” dowel called a Backer Rod is inserted to allow movement and to support the caulking.
Caulking is spread evenly by pushing the caulk gently ahead of the applicator tip and then allowing it to “self level”.
After about 24 hours the caulking has “tacked over” providing an attractive, watertight seal, and protection for your newly raised concrete.
